A Bit of Pickleball History

Pickleball was invented in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington state with two friends. They wanted to entertain their families during the summer, and the game, similar to badminton and a little like tennis, was born. They started with a badminton court in Pritchard's backyard, but they couldn't find badminton equipment locally. However, they had ping pong paddles, and they grabbed those, and that's how ping pong paddles became a part of the pickleball game. And they decided to use the light weight plastic wiffle ball instead of the ping pong ball because it was larger and easier to hit. Thus the game began to evolve.They named the game pickleball after the Pritchard's cocker spaniel called Pickles, who would run around while they played badminton and their newly invented game.
